And who else would have a punny stamp set like this? You know who! Kindred Stamps of course! For this month’s release I was asked to work with the soccer themed set, titled “Kick Some Grass.” I had so much fun creating cards with these kickin’ cuties.

For the first card, I used the “Play like a girl” sentiment to lead my design. I knew instantly it had to pink. For the background, I blended Oxide inks in Spun Sugar, the awesome new Kitsch Flamingo and Worn Lipstick. Then I used Kindred’s Swirly Bits stencil with Picked Raspberry Oxide ink on top of the blended pinks. I used Worn Lipstick to stamp the soccer balls on the background strip. Kitsch Flamingo was used for the sentiment. I wanted to pull all these pink tones together and give it a very feminine feel, reminiscent of Breast Cancer Awareness. The soccer player was colored with Copics and the soccer ball was stamped in black ink. For a final touch I pulled the pink sequins and rhinestones out of the Rainbow Sparkletz Shaker Pack sold by Kindred.

Next I decided to make a shaker card in my hometown colors since I had sequins and patterned paper leftover in those colors from a past Special Edition box. For this card, I used the awesome new “Card Builder Basics” die set. This is a set you are definitely going to want to grab. It has so many elements for creating all different types of cards. You will see later on, I also used it for a slimline card. I used the stitched card layer die to cut the bottom blue layer and the stitched square for the top layer. I turned it into a shaker by cutting the large star out of the middle. The ticket die, also from “Card Builder Basics” was perfect at the bottom for my sentiment. For some added bling and to coordinate with my star theme, I used Starry Sky Sparkletz.

For this soccer ball shaped card, I added the “Thanks” word die. These word dies are so awesome. They come with two pieces (word and shadow) which give you so many options for using these. You can see all the different word options here. For this sentiment, I used two different ones from the “Kick Some Grass” set and cut them apart to make it say “You kick grass.”

Lastly, I created this slimline card. I used Catherine Pooler inks in It’s A Boy and Suede Shoes for the sky using Kindred’s Cloud Builder stencil. To make the nets, I inked with a very light grey ink using the Lattice stencil. The circle and star are from the “Card Builder Basics” die set. Like all the others, the players were colored Copics. I used edged scissors for the strip of grass and inked it with “Grass Skirt.” I added some faux stitching and finishing touches with a white pen.

If you liked what you saw here, head on over to Kindred and grab some of these products that totally kick grass!!! They won’t last long.

The Royal Treatment

How cute is this little winged lady from AALL & Create? I knew she was a perfect fit for Judy’s Royal Shine Sparkle Blends. She definitely got the royal treatment with all the adorable elements in this blend, including bows and crowns. The colors are a perfect mix of shimmer and shine.

The set came with both wings so I masked the girl, then added on both wings. I stamped her with black Memento ink on iridescent vellum from Lawn Fawn and colored her with Copics. The blue and pink papers are specialty cardstocks from Brutus Monroe die cut with dies form My Favorite Things.

One of my favorite parts of this card is the sentiment, which I felt paired so well with the imagery and elements in the Sparkle Blend. I stamped the sentiment in purple Opalescent ink. For the final touch, I pulled different elements from the blend to glue around the edges and adorn her crown. I even added a bow at her neck. Springtime Under the Sea

Everything is budding under the sea with “Fawn’s Budding Leaves.” This gorgeous blend designed by Fawn Kuehne has the freshest shades of green that make you long for a crisp spring day. The shimmer and stars make this blend sparkle like sunlight.

I decided to take this blend underwater. I used the Reef Border and Frame Fancy Die from Hero Arts, without the frame so it was cut into the front of the card. I inked around the frame in a darker shade of green. It illuminated this flowy scene perfectly. The “Shell Yeah” stamp set is from Brutus Monroe. I colored it with Copics and added shimmery Nuvo Dream Drops to the pearl. Look close at the Sparkle Blends and you will see shimmering stars in different sizes and holographic discs that bounce light all around. This gorgeous Sparkle Blend is part of the exclusive February release. This month all the blends were designed by the Design Team Members. Head over to the etsy shop to get Fawn’s Budding Leaves and the many other gorgeous blends from the Doodles Paper Playground Design Team. These are all very limited editions and won’t last long.

To know me is to love sushi

First of all, it’s true. Ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you sushi is my favorite food. Secondly, how legit does it become when you have your very own Sparkle Blend and it’s…you guessed it – “Gina’s Sushi Bar.”

This had to be one of the most exciting craft milestones for me to date. Paling in comparison only to being asked to be a Designer for Doodles Paper Playground. I thought it could not get any better. But then, I had the opportunity to design my own Sparkle Blend. I kept rolling ideas around but always came back to the sushi idea. Luckily, when I pitched it to Doodles Paper Playground, she loved it. So order up!

Take a close look at this buffet of delicious sparkles. It’s got everything from Nigiri, maki, rice and even caviar. The colors are a beautiful mix of all the shades of pink and orange that you would see on a sushi bar of tuna and salmon. Creating this blend was soy amazing. There’s even the green and blacks of seaweed. Varying textures really make you feel like you just sat down at a sushi bar, Gina’s Sushi Bar.

Sending all my love

Who doesn’t love to send love? I certainly do! How perfect is Doodle Paper Playgrounds “Love Letters” Sparkle Blend. This is an adorable accent to any love you send! It’s loaded with love letters, hearts, beads, sparkles and sequins. In a shaker or even just glued around a card as accents, it makes sending love easy and fun.

I used the new “Dotted Heart” die set from Brutus Monroe to create this little heart shaped note. The red glitter paper is also from Brutus Monroe. The sentiment and puffins were perfectly paired with this love-filled blend. This stamp set called “Stud Puffin” along with the Heart Shaker Tag Die are both from Lawn Fawn. I used Prisma Color pencils to color the puffins. The sentiment was stamped in Real Red ink from Stampin’ Up.

Head over to the Sparkle Blends shop to order “Love Letters” Sparkle Blends in time to send some love this Valentine’s Day!

Lucky to have…

…these gorgeous “Shamrock” Sparkle Blends that coordinate perfectly with a Honeybee stamp set gifted to me by a dear friend. The green and gold tones and sparkles work perfectly to send a St. Patrick’s Day wish to someone special. You can check out these and all the other amazing Sparkle Blends at the Doodles Paper Playground shop.

I used the two different sized clover outline stamps with gold embossing powder to create the patterned background. The sentiment was stamped in Catherine Pooler’s “Grass Skirt” ink. I used an embossing pen and the gold powder to put some highlights on the word “Clover.”

These beautiful green blend work perfectly for any St. Patty’s Day project or anything green! Don’t forget to check this out along with the other January releases.

Pucking Awesome

Hey fellow hockey lovers and crafters, check this out! It’s one the latest releases from Kindred Stamps called “Puck.” I had such a blast working with this set.

The entire Kindred Stamps January release will be available Friday, January 29 at 8am PST/11am EST. Be sure to subscribe to the Kindred Stamps blog to see a daily line up of sneak peeks from our amazing Design Team and see the full product release on Friday! Come join the Fan Club and release event to be part of the release fun, and you may just win some Kindred Stamps credit!!

There are so many possibilities with these stamps sets, I had to go for the hat trick! First up is “Shoot for your goal.” I had fun with the circle dies cuts and glitter paper and found some hockey background paper to coordinate. I colored the hockey player with Copics and popped him with adhesive foam on the inside of the card.

Next up is “Puck, you’re old.” I repeated the hockey player embossed in white then did a simple Distress Oxide ink blended background. I used Speckled Egg, Crackling Campfire and Ground Espresso. The single image on the front is also embossed in white. The sentiment continues on the inside so I stamped the hockey player in Speckled Egg for some interest and the sentiment in Crackling Campfire

And for the hat trick…”Let’s stick together.” For this card I played with Brusho Color Burst powders for the background strip. The sentiment is embossed right onto the Brusho background with white embossing powder. I layered the strip with green paper and then white paper which I cut using Tim Holtz’s new deckled edged trimmer. On the black background I did the same thing with the “YES” sentiment. The hockey player was embossed with black embossing powder on watercolor paper. I used ZIG Waterbrush markers to color him. For a little “icing” I added some crystal effects flakes to make the hockey player look like he was on ice.

Maker sure you check out the release event to see all the awesome new sets and amazing projects created by the Design Team!

Even Mermaids go to Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras is fun for everyone…even mermaids! Today’s card inspiration comes right from one of Doodles Paper Playground’s newest Sparkle Blends called “Mardi Gras Beads.” The bright purple caught my eye instantly. I love this color combination so much, even though I’ve never been to Mardi Gras. The “Mardi Gras Beads” blend has so many fun shapes and elements that worked so well for this underwater scene.

I created the background using purple and green color burst powders on watercolor paper. I used the seaweed stamp from Simon Hurley create’s “Mythical Mermaid” stamp set on the background, embossed in gold. I also rubbed my embossing ink in the corners and used more gold embossing powder. The background was splattered with Vegas Gold ink from Tsukineko. I also used it to paint some shimmer around the edges of the layers as well as the mermaids. Both of my background layers were trimmed with Tim Holtz’s Deckled edged trimmer, as well as the sentiments which were also embossed with gold. For the final touched, I pulled different elements out of the “Mardi Gras Beads” blend and glued them onto the panel.

The leaf die cam from an old Stampin Up set. I used the positive to create the leaf embellishment behind each mermaid. I pushed them onto my embossing ink pad and then covered them with gold embossing powder. The mermaids were colored with ZIG Real Waterbrush markers on Bristol paper. I brushed some of the gold paint around the edges. I really loved being able to use a Sparkle Blend for a different theme than it was intended for. It really shows how versatile these mixes are. Be sure to check out all the amazing new January Blends on sale now at the Doodles Paper Playground shop.

A Kindred Day

An exciting day for sure! It’s my first ever post for the Kindred Stamps Design Team. I am so thrilled to be a part of this amazing team. Allow me to showcase my inaugural designs.

This month’s travel set is called “Travel to Polynesia.” Even if you’ve never been to Polynesia, there are still so many fun things to do with this set. There are several different holidays and occasions this set can be used for. “Mele Kalikimaka” and “Happy Hula Days” are the perfect sentiments to use for Christmas cards. You could easily adorn the hula girl and fire twirler in holiday colors.

Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I designed “Hula Loves You” with that special day in mind. I stamped the hula girl with Picket Fence Black Hybrid ink and colored her with Copics. I stamped her a second time so I could color and cut out the flowers on her head to use as embellishments around the sentiment. I added a few highlights to everything with a white pen. The sentiment was heat embossed on red cardstock with white embossing powder.

I created the background by layering Distress Spray Stain in Candied Apple and Distress Oxide Sprays in Worn Lipstick and Festive Berries on watercolor paper. I sprayed, splattered and dabbed until I had something I was happy with. Then I unscrewed the cap of Distress Spray Stain in Picket Fence and splattered some white on the card. Once it was dry I ran it through with a heart embossing folder. First I used a waterbrush to blend some of the raised areas. Then I went over them with a Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen in Opal Quartz. For a final touch, I inked the edges with red chalk paint. I layered with red cardstock onto a white card base.

I fussy cut the hula girl and adhered with pop dots next to the sentiment.

Sometimes I like to send a card to a friend for no other reason than to say hello. The “Aloha” stamp was perfect for this type of card. I stamped and colored the fire twirler same as I did the hula girl. I really wanted this to feel organic so I tried to play with layers and textures. I made the background by running a piece of yellow patterned paper through with a basket weave embossing folder. Then I inked the entire background in brown ink. I die cut circles out of patterned paper and vellum and layered them with die cut flowers. I set the fire twirler on top with adhesive foam. I added patterned paper and twine behind the sentiment to balance out the texture and layers.

I see many more possibilities with this set. “Mahalo” paired with both dancers would make a great thank you card. “Hula Love You” would make a great birthday or anniversary card. Check out “Travel to Polynesia” and the other new sets at Kindred Stamps.

Pineapple Expressions

When I saw this awesome technique demonstrated by Amanda from Rise and Procraftinate, I had to try it! My husband loves tie-dye so I knew this would be a perfect birthday card for him. If you have any type of waterbrush markers, I encourage you to check it out. It’s super easy and the results are fabulous. I used ZIG Real Brush markers for the background. The Die cut is from Simon Says Stamps which I enhanced with glossy accents.

I accented the card with Pineapple Garden Sparkle Blends from Doodles Paper Playground. I thought they coordinated perfectly and it reminded me of the movie Pineapple Express. Placement is one of my favorite ways to use Sparkle Blends because you really get to appreciate all the awesome different elements mixed within a blend. It also adds more versatility to your blends because you can pick out certain elements to go with specific themes. I always take a look at what’s in a blend to see different ways it can be used. Check out all the fabulous blends here.
